This special five night fairisle knitting workshop holiday will be held at the atmospheric Rising Sun Inn and Rock House in beautiful Lynmouth, Devon. The workshop each day will be held at Rock House and during our stay we will enjoy visits to the John Arbon mill, the British Wool Grading Depot, have high Tea at the lovely Highbullen Hotel and enjoy a walking tour of the pictureque villages of Lynton and Lynmouth, including a ride on the famous Funicular Cliff Railway.  The Rising Sun is a historic inn dating back to the  14th century and is renowned for it's  delicious food prepared from the very best seasonal and local produce.

WORKSHOP TITLE

 

FAIRISLE IN DEVON - In this Fair Isle knitting workshop, you will start to knit POPPY SCARF from Marie's new collection GENTLE. This workshop is suitable for those knitters new to Fair Isle knitting or for those wishing to practise their stranded colourwork technique or to simply just to enjoy Fair Isle knitting with like minded people in a beautiful setting.

All 14 rooms are priced the same. 10 rooms are available at The Rising Sun and 4 rooms at Rock House.  9 of the 10 rooms at The Rising Sun have sea views, only one is situated at the side of the hotel but is a larger room. All the rooms are individually decorated in keeping with the charm and character of the building. With all the modern comforts and cosy beds, each has an

en-suite bathroom. The 4 rooms at Rock House have just been redecorated to a high standard, each have either a view of the sea, the river Lyn or the garden. Rock House is a 18th century guest house which stand alone at the harbour entrance to Lynmouth and so enjoys amazing sea views. Each of the workshop days will be held at Rock House, which is situated opposite to The Rising Sun. Once you have started your project, you are free to knit wherever you like at Rock House, in The Rising Sun or by the sea!

 

TOTAL COST

£1200.00 - a deposit of £500 is payable on booking, the balance of £700 is payable week com.6th January 2020. The price includes VAT at 20%.

 

If you wish to bring a partner then please email for the extra cost as there is a different room rate for double occupancy.

THE RISING SUN

The Rising Sun Inn has always been an inn on the harbour front in Lynmouth. Dating back to the 14th century, the inn now comprises of adjoining cottages, which once were homes for fishermen. The Rising Sun has great character with many crooked staircases, narrow passageways, sloping floors and low beams and is thought to have once been used as a smugglers inn!

ROCK HOUSE

Rock House is located in a very enviable position, standing alone at the harbour entrance to Lynmouth. The house is a 18th century guest house, now owned by The Rising Sun. If offers peace and tranquility, a perfect place to relax and knit! Each of the workshop days will be held at Rock House, which is a very short walk from The Rising Sun across the footbridge over the River Lyn.

THE RISING SUN - ROOMS

The hotel rooms have a welcome feel and a charming individuality. The features and furnishings of each complement the character of this historic inn. Each of the rooms have en-suite bathrooms with either a bath or shower, a TV and tea & coffee making facilities. There are 10 rooms available, 9 of which are sea view rooms. The 10th room - a standard room is situated at the side of the hotel and is a lovely room. The other 2 standard rooms will be rooms for Marie and Gwynneth. All the rooms are priced the same and are the same price as the rooms at Rock House. All the rooms will be allocated in order of booking. ROCK HOUSE - ROOMS

The 4 rooms available at Rock House have just recently been decorated and furnished to a very high standard. All have en-suite bathrooms, as well as a TV and tea & coffee making facilities. Each of the 4 rooms have superb views of the sea, the River Lyn or the garden. All the rooms are priced the same and are the same price as the rooms at The Rising Sun. THE RISING SUN - RESTAURANT

The chef at The Rising Sun is passionate about local food. The restaurant serves the very best in fresh seasonal produce with emphasis on local fish and sea food.  We will be enjoying breakfast and dinner at The Rising Sun each day and the chef will be compiling a special menu each day for dinner. ITINERARY

Monday 16th 2020

Arrival after 2pm. We will settle into our rooms at the lovely Rising Sun Inn or Rock House. Anyone arriving earlier will not be able to check into their room, but can take advantage of looking around the pretty village of Lynmouth or relax in the bar area of the inn and enjoy a drink. We will meet at reception at 6.30pm for a welcome drink and an introduction to the workshop with an 'any questions' session. We will have dinner at 7.30pm at The Rising Sun.

 

Tuesday 17th March 2020

After breakfast at The Rising Sun, we will start the workshop at 10am at Rock House. We will break for lunch at 1pm and then continue the workshop until 5.30pm. Tea and cake will be served mid afternoon and dinner will be at 7.30pm at The Rising Sun.

 

Wednesday 18th March 2020

After breakfast we will we travel by minibus to the British Wool Depot in South Moulton. Here we will be given a talk and shown how the wool grading process works when it arrives from the farm. The wool for the BRITISH BREEDS yarn comes from this depot and as it is local, John has full traceability of his wool fibre. From here we take the very short journey to the John Arbon mill. Here we will be met by John and Juliet and you will be able to meet their very friendly team. John will give us a guided tour of the mill explaining the spinning process. Afterwards you will have a chance to look and buy from their new shop inside the mill. From the mill we travel to the lovely Highbullen House for afternoon high tea and then back to The Rising Sun for dinner at 7.30pm.

 

Thursday 19th March 2020

After breakfast at The Rising Sun, we will start the workshop at 10am at Rock House. We will break for lunch at 1pm and then continue the workshop until 5.30pm. Tea and cake will be served mid afternoon and dinner will be at 7.30pm at The Rising Sun.

 

Friday 20th March 2020

After breakfast we will be met by a local guide who will lead an optional walk around beautiful Lynton and Lynmouth - subject to the weather. We will also enjoy a ride on the historic Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Funicular Railway and enjoy a Devon cream tea at The Cliff Top Cafe. In the afternoon we will continue the workshop at Rock House and dinner at The Rising Sun at 7.30pm.

 

Saturday 21st March 2020

After breakfast, you will check out of your room and we will say our goodbyes.

 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF BOOKING

 

A non refundable deposit stated above must be paid at time of booking to secure your place, with the balance being payable no later than 8 calendar weeks before the start date of the holiday.

 

In the event of your cancellation, the following fees will apply: 39 - 52 weeks prior to start date, full deposit, 26 - 38 weeks prior to start date, 50% of full price, 12 - 25 weeks prior to start date 75% of full price, 0 - 12 weeks prior to start date, 100% of price.

 

In the unlikely event that the holiday has to be cancelled by Marie Wallin Designs Ltd, then you will receive your deposit or total payment in full.

 

Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements to and from The Rising Sun or Rock House on arrival and departure days.

 

Accommodation at the The Rising Sun or Rock House, breakfast, dinner at The Rising Sun for 5 nights and 4 lunches are included in the cost of the holiday, together with all taxes.

 

Guests will be able to use The Rising Sun or Rock House complimentary wifi.

 

All drinks and any extras must be paid for by guests separately on checking out.

 

Guests are responsible for their own medical and travel insurance.

 

The visits and guided walk are included in the holiday. Admission and travel to and from the British Wool Depot, the John Arbon Mill and High Bullen House is included.

 

Guests are recommended to bring walking shoes and wet weather walking clothing for the guided walk.

 

If a guest requires any special assistance or has any special physical or dietary needs, this must be made clear at the time of booking by email.
